Alfred Wayne Willson, 83, of Pampa, passed away on March 16, 2023 in Pampa.

 

Services will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 20, 2023 at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor Jim Sinyard, pastor at Carpenter’s Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

 

Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

 

Alfred was born on March 16, 1940 in Pampa to James Leroy and Ethel Willson. A lifelong resident of Pampa, he graduated from Pampa High School in 1958. Alfred married the love of his life, Gloria Bearden Poore, on February 18, 1989, celebrating their 34th anniversary last February.

 

Alfred began working at the age of nine as a newspaper boy. In his high school years, he worked for the Lanora Theater, the drive-in theater, and the Fugate Printing Co. He worked for National Tank Co. for eight years, before going into business with his brother, Lloyd, owning and operating Custom Welding and Fabricating, Inc. from 1969 to 1973. He then worked for Cabot and Cabot International for 12 years from 1973 to 1985, in sales and service, escorting the Cabot Mobile Oil rig, worldwide. He later reopened Custom Welding and Fabricating, Inc. from 1987 to 1993. In 1993, he went to work for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Jordan Unit, retiring in 2003 as a boot factory assistant manager with 10 years of service.

 

Alfred served with the Texas Army National Guard from 1958 to 1965. He was a member of Briarwood Church. Alfred enjoyed traveling with Cabot International to many countries. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and raising German shepherds. Alfred was very fond of his special blue heeler dog, Cowgirl and later in life, his beloved therapy dog, Torro. He always had an extremely special love and affection for his beloved wife, stepson, stepdaughter, four grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Ruth Camp, Viola Duggan, Nadine Lockhart, and Bettie Craig; two brothers, Lloyd Willson and James Willson; four brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.

 

Alfred is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria Willson of the home; one stepson, Darren Poore and wife Kelly of Austin; one stepdaughter, Brandi Silva and husband Tony of Bremerton, Washington; four step grandchildren, Riley Poore of Washington, D.C., Logan Poore of Logan, Utah, Loren Silva of Bellingham, Washington, and Luke Silva of Bermerton, Washington; brother-in-law, Johnny Bearden and wife Eileen, special nieces, Carol Sue Knutson and Lisa Stevens; and several other beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
