Antonio Ramirez, 90, of Pampa, passed away, November 4, 2021 in Pampa.

Liturgy of the Word will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church with Deacon David Duenes, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael- Whatley Funeral Directors.

The Rosary will be recited at 5:30 PM, Monday, November 8, 2021, at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel.

Antonio was born on June 25, 1931, in Amarillo to Maria and Rufino Ramirez. He was raised in La Piedad, Michoacan, Mexico. As a young man, he played soccer, a sport he excelled at, and he played for a semi-professional team in Mexico. Antonio would return to Texas where he moved to Pampa in 1952. He later met Jane Hernandez and they married on October 30, 1954, in Pampa. They had six children and 37 years of marriage before she preceded him in death in 1991. Antonio worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for some years and later worked as welder’s helper and worked for various companies that included Milliron Engineering, Shafer, JE Carlson, and lastly at K & K where he retired. Antonio was a longtime and faithful member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He loved to play with his children when they were young, and his grandchildren and he liked to show off some of his soccer skills. Antonio also enjoyed spending time with all his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 2 daughters, Veronica Hernandez, and Maria Herring; a son, Stephen Joseph Ramirez; a great-grandson, Julian Herring; six brothers, Jesus Ramirez, Jose Ramirez, Daniel Ramirez, Miguel Ramirez, Leopoldo Ramirez, and Francisco Ramirez; and by a sister, Maria Elena Rodriguez.

His survivors include three daughters, Catherine E. Ramirez, Teresa Ramirez and fiancée Rick Hefner, all of Pampa, and Christine Valdez and spouse Larry of Lubbock; six granddaughters, Amy Yailin of Amarillo, Janie Hernandez of Amarillo, Elizabeth Ward of Thorton, CO, Sarah Herring of Amarillo, and Emily Allen of Sterling, VA, and Claire Valdez of Ridgewood, NY; two grandsons, Brian Herring of Amarillo and Alex Valdez of Lubbock; 14 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Mary Lou Olivarez and husband Fidel of Perryton; special nephew, Chico Ramirez and wife Liz of  Pampa; numerous cousins and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

 

The family would like to extend gratitude to Connie, Samantha, Cassie, Teri, Kathie, and Michelle the nurses and staff of BSA of the Southwest Hospice for their loving care of Antonio.
