Arnold Wayne Story, 89, of Lefors, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2022 in Pampa.
Services will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Norman Rushing, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Heights Cemetery in Lefors under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
The family will receive friends at the Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors on Monday, September 19, 2022 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.
Arnold was born on February 14, 1933 in Burkburnett to Joe Story, Sr. and Lillie Carter Story. He attended school in Burkburnett and was a 1950 graduate of Burkburnett High School. Arnold enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on August 23, 1950. He proudly served his country for three years before being honorably discharged on August 22, 1953. Arnold met the love of his life, Lula Glissen, while shopping for some Valentine’s Day cards at the grocery store where she worked. They were later married on May 28, 1954 in Electra. She preceded him in death on August 19, 2019. Arnold and Lula made their home in Electra before moving to Midland, to follow Arnold’s job with Texaco, in 1962. They then moved back to Electra for a short time before moving to Lefors in 1969. He continued working for Texaco for 41 years until his retirement.
Arnold was a member at First Baptist Church in Lefors from 1969 until 2002. In 2002, he became a member at Central Baptist Church. Arnold served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Lefors and Central Baptist Church. He was also a Sunday school teacher for 25 years. Arnold was a longtime member of Lions Club. He also served on the school board in Lefors for 14 years, four of which he served as the president. Arnold was a member on the Lefors Credit Union board for 16 years and president for three of those. He had a heart to serve his community in whatever he could. Arnold enjoyed gardening, pouring concrete, hunting, and working in the yard.
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Story, Sr. and Lillie Carter Story; his wife of 65 years, Lula Story; eight siblings, RJ Story, Carlton Story, Edward Story, Nel Suffern, Buddy Story, Esther Harris, Billy Morgan, and Irene Tomzcak; one grandson, Chance Evan Story; and one great-grandson, Max Wayne Soto.
He is survived by three sons, Ed Story and wife Karen of White Deer, Kirk Story and wife Meledy of Del Norte, Colorado, and Greg Story and wife Pam of Corpus Christi; one daughter, Sandra Coombes and husband Terry of Lefors; one sister, Joyce Crawford of Childress; 13 grandchildren, Grady Story of Panhandle, Jeff Story and wife Caitlin of Amarillo, Nathan Story and wife Kinslee of Amarillo, Jared Story and wife Heidi of Del Norte, Colorado, Heath Story of Del Norte, Colorado, Shane Story and wife Brandi of Tuttle, Oklahoma, Nicholas Story and wife Karen of Crestview, Florida, Misty Soto and husband Andrew of Lefors, Wakely Pairsh and wife Juliane of Amarillo, Story Dowless and husband David of Shepard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Tad Coombes and wife Jonelle of Lefors, Tory Coombes and wife Tabby of Lefors, and Brittney Coombes of Lefors; and 19 great-grandchildren.
