Lane Smith

Austin Lane Smith, 31, of Miami, passed away on September 19, 2026, in Miami.

Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, September 25, 2026, at the Miami High School Auditorium with Rev. Anthony Inman of First Methodist Church of Vernon and family friend, officiating. Burial will follow at the Roberts County Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 PM, Thursday at the funeral home.

Lane will be available for viewing from 1:00 – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, and 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM, on Thursday, at the funeral home.

Lane was born on August 19, 1995, in Amarillo to Jeri Cagle and Garry Smith. He grew up and finished school in Miami. Lane would meet his future wife and soul mate, Taylor McClendon while in high school and they later married on July 20, 2019, in Stinnett. Thereafter starting their life and having their first child, Kash, and their daughter to come, Maisie. They lived in Perryton for a few years before returning to Miami in 2024.

Lane worked as a diesel mechanic for several years. He had tenure with 4 C Hot Oil Service, Western Hot Oil Service, and Energy Transfer. Lane was a talented man occupationally and athletically. At work he could fix anything and solve just about any problem. While in high school, he was an exceptional athlete who excelled in all sports, football, and track where he competed at state.

Lane had many hobbies, but he liked shooting his guns and especially riding his motorcycle. He was a good man who was the one of the best friends you could have and was a terrific big brother to all his siblings. Although he was fiercely independent, he was exceptionally generous to the people he liked and loved. Lane would provide a helping hand to anyone in need. Whether it was helping his friends or serving as a volunteer firefighter, Lane could be counted on. To know Lane was to love Lane, and he will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

The family wants to extend their appreciation and love to their Miami community and beyond for all the support and outpouring they have received after Lane’s passing.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jewell Cagle, and Joe Cagle.

Lane is survived by his wife, Taylor Smith and their son, Kash, and their daughter-to-come, Maisie, all of the home; mother, Jeri Cagle of Miami; father, Garry Smith and wife Betty of Amarillo; siblings, Levi Smith and wife Brooke and their son, Sawyer of Pampa, Seth Harp and wife Kylynn of Amarillo, Shaelyn Smith and husband Cameron of Amarillo, Nathan Smith, and Ty Smith, both of Guymon, Oklahoma; paternal grandparents, Jerry and Doris Smith; and other extended family.
