Benton was born March 23, 1944 in Vernon to Benton Monroe and Juanita Scoggins Rogers. He graduated from Mobeetie High School in 1962. After high school he worked on various ranchers until June 9, 1965 when he was drafted into the US Army. Benton served until June 9, 1967 when he was honorably discharged. Once he returned, he would go to work for a few different feedlots and began his rodeo career. Benton was a saddle bronc rider and traveled to many rodeos and helped young riders along the way. He obtained his PRCA card and continued rodeoing until 1988.

On December 12, 1968 he married the love of his life, Johnnie Presley. They were married over 37 years before she passed away. He was heartbroken when she passed away and changed his life for the Lord. Benton was faithful and served the Lord by spreading the gospel to everyone he knew. He had recently started reading the bible through for the 51st time. Benton was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Benton worked for the TxDot for 30 years when he retired in 2006 to help take care of Johnnie. In his neighborhood, he also served as the “neighborhood mechanic” for all the kids. When they had problems with their bicycles, Benton was there to get them back up and running. He loved helping them with any little projects. Benton also enjoyed target shooting and gun trading. He spent a lot of time at Pampa Reload and Pampa Gun Club visiting with other gun enthusiasts.

Benton was a generous man, sometimes to a fault. He was always willing to help anyone in need. Benton was also a very patient and conservative man. He also took care of himself by never passing up an opportunity to take a good nap. His family was important to him and he loved them dearly. Benton finished his 8 second ride and how has collected his crown and is reunited with his love and Jesus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Douglas Rogers; brother-in-law, Lary Turcotte; niece, Julia Walters; in-laws, H.L. and Melba Presley.
