Betty Joyce Dyson, 94 of Pampa, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2024 in Houston.
Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, June 3, 2024 in Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Ruby Moultrie, pastor of Open Door United Methodist Church in Clyde and Rev. Jarrod Neal, pastor of First Methodist Church of Pampa, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Betty was born December 31, 1929 in Wheeler to Ruben and Veda Jane May. On March 4, 1947, she married R. H. Dyson in Wheeler. He passed away on December 4, 2020. They moved to Pampa in 1975 and lived there until 2020, when they moved to Houston. Betty worked as an assistant supervisor at the Marie Foundation for 10 years. She also volunteered at Coronado Nursing Home fixing ladies’ hair and Good Samaritan interviewing clients. Betty was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church where she was also a member of the Koinonia Sunday School class. She loved camping, fishing, and cooking for her family.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Barbara Burgess; brother, James May; and grandson, Matt Kelley.
Survivors include two daughters, Jane Lee Nipper and husband Mike of Houston and Diane Waters and husband Lee of Amarillo; son, Kent Dyson and wife Michele of Pampa; grandchildren, Michele Oglesby and husband Chris of Houston, Colby Waters and wife Erin of Perryton, Blake Nipper and wife Shelly of Cypress, Leanne Jeffcoat and husband T.J. of Pampa, Kellen Brown and husband Matt of Carrollton, Emily Laurence and husband Mike of Taylor, Kolton Dyson and wife Samara of Pampa, and Mitch Kelley and wife Gracie of Lubbock; great grandchildren, Kalee and Dustin Oglesby of Houston, Chloe and Paige Nipper of Houston, Emma Waters of Wyoming, Henry Waters of Perryton, Hannah Trevino and husband Marcos of Spearman, Elise and Harper Brown of Carrollton, Sara Beth and Rebekah Laurence of Taylor, Brayden Dyson of Austin, Faith Hall of Pampa, Joonie Dyson of Pampa, Leo Dyson of Pampa, and Teddi Kelley of Lubbock; and one great great granddaughter, Mia Trevino of Spearman.
The family would like to thank Betty’s granddaughter, Michele Oglesby and great granddaughter, Kalee Oglesby; granddaughters, Chloe and Paige Nipper, Leanne Jeffcoat, Emily Laurence, Samara Dyson for the extra care they gave their aunt when they visited; Dr. Britten and staff in Amarillo, TX, Dr. Mack and staff in Houston, TX, Kara, caregiver in Houston; May, hospice nurse; IPR home health; IPR Hospice; Senior Citizens of Pampa; and family and friends who made the trip to Houston to visit her.
Kent and Diane as well as the rest of the family would like to give a special thank you to Jane Lee for the love and care of R.H. and Betty over the past four years.
