Betty Jean Stovall, 96, of Pampa, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, in McLean.
Celebration of life services for Betty will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Byron Williamson of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 -7:00 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.
When her mother was visiting family in Oklahoma, Betty’s mother would go into unexpected labor and Betty would be born on March 4, 1930, in Covington, OK to A.L. and Myrtle Prigmore. Shortly after her birth, her family would return to Pampa, Texas where she graduated school and lived most of her life.
Betty would meet her first love, Gary Cooper, and they would later wed and, in this union, start their family. While serving his country, Gary would pass away in active duty during the Korean Conflict. Betty would find love again when she became acquainted with Neal Stovall and they married on March 16, 1979, in Pampa. They would share almost 28 years and blend two families before his passing in 2007.
Betty was a talented and hardworking woman who worked her way from an entry level position to an administrative role and spent 25 years with the Cabot Corporation before her retirement. Betty was very active in the First Baptist Church years ago, where she participated in choir, taught Sunday School, and a host of other church activities. Her church and her God were very important to her, and before Neal’s passing, they would sacrifice their time to help with missionary work to help spread the Gospel.
Without a doubt, Betty was known to be a highly social woman who was witty, who always could be found laughing, and loved to host and entertain friends and family. Her friendly and outgoing personality will be greatly missed by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; daughter, Suzanne Vickery; and a sister, Rosemary Schwope.
Betty is survived by her son, Michael Cooper; daughter, Linda Patton and husband David; grandson, Jason Vickery and wife Rebecca; several grandchildren; and stepchildren; and other extended family.
