Brenda Colson Downs, 70, of Pampa, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 in Amarillo.

 

Services will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 18, 2023 at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Minister Lynn Thornton, retired Church of Christ minister, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

 

Brenda was born on September 9, 1952 in Mangum, Oklahoma to Radford Colson and Margaret Stewart Colson. She attended school in Pampa and was a 1971 graduate of Pampa High School. After graduating, Brenda obtained her realtor’s license. She married Johnny Downs on September 5, 1985. Brenda was a homemaker for many years until she began working for Dr. Walters as an office manager. She later worked as a loan officer for Pamcel Federal Credit Union until her retirement in the early 2000s.

 

Brenda was extremely crafty and enjoyed making jewelry and purses. She also enjoyed gardening and loved all flowers, especially marigolds. Brenda was also a gifted cook and baker. However, there was nothing she liked to do more than spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

 

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Radford and Margaret Colson; and a daughter-in-law, Keely Downs.

 

She is survived by her husband, Johnny Downs of the home; four children, Brandi Wheat and husband David of Burneyville, Oklahoma, Ryan Handley and wife Deann of Amarillo, Jeremiah Downs of Pampa, and Jason Downs and wife Jana of Pampa; one brother, Sam Colson and wife Winona of Amarillo; 21 grandchildren, Brenner Badia, Jarren Badia, Zachariah Sheffield, Laura Sheffield, Caelan Wheat, Addison Wheat, Blaine Wheat, Hayden Handley, Hunter Handley, Cody Lopez, Sienna Lopez, Hutson Handley, Ethan Handley, Jesse Downs, Ayden Downs, Zoe Downs, Kendall Downs, Asher Downs, Leann Spence, Hailey Spence, and Faith Toland; six great-grandchildren; and two dogs, Hallie and Harley.
