Concha "Connie" Diaz, 83, of Pampa passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021 in Amarillo.

Vigil services will be 6:00 PM Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel.

Mass will be said 11:00 AM Friday, July 16 2021 at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church with Rev. Francisco Perez, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Diaz was born December 7, 1937 in Pampa to Santos and Leopoldo Ramirez at the Worley Hospital. In high school, she was a setter on the volleyball team and was elected queen of the Spanish class in 1956. Connie graduated from Pampa High School in May of 1957. After her graduation, she applied for her first job at the Coney Island Café where she worked for a year. Connie met Roberto Diaz and were married on November 8, 1958 in Clayton, New Mexico. They were married for 40 years before his death on January 23, 1999. They had two sons Ricky Diaz and Lenny Diaz.

In 1970, Connie went back to work at the Coney as a waitress. At the time, John Gikas was on the Pampa ISD school board and asked her if she was interested in being one of the first teacher aides in the school system. Connie started work for Pampa ISD in 1970 and retired in 2004 after 34 years of service. During that time, she continued to work at the Coney on the weekends. Upon her retirement, Connie returned to being a full-time waitress. She loved her job and served the patrons at the Coney for over 50 years. Connie was a hard-working woman who provided for her family and friends. When you went into the Coney you would always see a smile on her face.

She was a member at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church for over 50 years. Connie considered her church friends, her co-workers at Pampa ISD and Coney Island as her second family.

Her dog, Spike, was her friend and companion after Roberto passed away.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Lenny Diaz; her sister, Elvira Guerra; her brother, Raul "Rabbit" Ramirez.

Survivors include her son, Ricky Diaz of Weatherford, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Brianna Diaz of Clinton, Oklahoma, Bryan Diaz of Dallas, and Stephen Diaz of Amarillo; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Chico Ramirez and wife Liz of Pampa; sister, Mary Olizarez and husband Fidel of Dalhart; and numerous other family members.

The Diaz family would like to thank the Davis family for always being there after her husband passed away and Delma Garcia.
