Dan Dwight, 73, of Pampa passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026 at his home.
Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Friday, May 15, 2026 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pat Sims officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Dan was born June 16, 1952 in Pampa to Kenneth and Beulah Dwight. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1971. As a young boy, he was involved in many activities and groups which included the Boys Scouts. After high school, he attended West Texas State University for one semester before he received his draft notice. While he was at school, he met the love of his life, Susie Hale. They married on December 26, 1972 in Panhandle. They celebrated 53 years together.
Dan served in the US Army for two years. His deployment was in Germany; he was the company clerk for the MP unit. Dan was honorably discharged in 1974 and returned to Pampa. Once he returned to Pampa, he went to work for his father and grandfather at Dwight’s Welding and would continue there for about 25 years. Dan then shifted his career to work at National Oilwell where he would eventually retire after working for over 15 years.
Dan was a big guy who was rarely seen without his overalls and often tried to appear tough and gruff, but those who knew him best knew he was truly just a big ol’ teddy bear with a kind heart. He was a talker and enjoyed visiting people, but he also had an onery side to him. After retiring he loved to fish, make knives, and work in the vegetable garden. Dan was a wonderful cook, and he also loved to grill outside for his family and friends.
Dan was always supportive of his daughters as they grew up, and he continued to do that with his grandchildren. He loved his family dearly and will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jane Rogers.
Survivors include his wife, Susie Dwight of the home; two daughters, Tina Sims and husband Brandon of Borger and Lisa Shepherd and husband Tyler of Fulshear; he was “granddad” to his four grandchildren, Addy Sims, Braden Sims, Hayden Shepherd, and Abby Shepherd; and a brother, Kenny Dwight and wife Joyce of Fulshear.
