Skellytown

Darline Mary Ann Lee, 92, of Skellytown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 11, 2025 in Pampa.

Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Carter Pirtle, pastor of First Baptist Church of Skellytown, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

The service will be livestreamed through the funeral home’s website.

Darline was born July 27, 1932 in Estherville, Iowa to Leonard and Crystal Cother. She graduated high school in Iowa and went on to obtain her bachelor's degree in English. Darline was married to her first husband, Frank Lorezen for several years and had two children, Debbie and Steve. In 1978, she married Paul Sangster. They were married 14 years before he passed away in 1992. During her early years of marriage, she lived in Iowa, Montana, and in 1978 she moved to Skellytown. Darline married Larry Lee on June 24, 2001 in Crosbyton and they continued to live in Skellytown.

Darline served as head librarian in Storm Lake, Iowa for about 10 years, and then she worked as the librarian at Spring Creek school for 10 years. She loved to read, which made her a wonderful librarian. She wanted to pass on her love of reading to every child she came in contact with. For many years she was a member of the First Methodist Church of White Deer and for the past few years she had been attending the First Baptist Church of Skellytown.

Darline was a loving and caring person who was always concerned for others. She enjoyed being around her family and friends and could visit with just about anyone. Darline loved to take family vacations, work in her flower garden, and loved her cats and dogs. She was very knowledgeable, and she seemed to always have an answer. Her answers were direct, meaningful, and honest. Darline was strong in her faith. She lived by her motto, “ God is in control, take one day at a time.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Debbie Lorenzen; Frank Lorenzen; and Paul Sangster.

Survivors include her husband Larry Lee of Skellytown; son, Steve Lorenzen and wife Nancy of Richardson; stepdaughter, Brenda Kuempel and husband Dennis of Pampa; stepson, Roger Lee and wife Katie of Nashville, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Morgan Lorenzen, Gunnar Stevens, Garrison Stevens, Gracie Stevens, and Hatcher Holton; and sister-in-law, Janie Winters of Fresno, California.
