Dixie West

Dixie Mae West, 88, went to be with the Lord on July 23, 2026.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2026, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors in Pampa, Texas.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean, Texas, with Pastor Ron Noble of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church, officiating. Arrangements and burial are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Dixie was born on February 19, 1938, in Corbin, Kentucky. She was the only child of John and Lucy Hampton. Her mother later married Leslie Peavler, and the family moved to McLean, Texas, where Dixie met her husband, Roland West. They were married in 1955 in Clovis, New Mexico. They began their married life in McLean, and in October 1955, they moved to Pampa, where they remained for their 62-year marriage.

Dixie was proud to be a homemaker and mother throughout their marriage. She was a member of Hiland Pentecostal Holiness Church and later First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pampa. She took great pleasure in teaching Sunday School for nearly 40 years. She held her family in great affection, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were extremely fond of their Grandma Dixie.

Following the passing of her dear husband, Roland, Dixie moved to Rio Rancho, New Mexico, where she enjoyed having her family nearby. She made many new friends and enjoyed a renewed social life in her apartment complex.

Dixie was preceded in death by her husband, Roland; her mother, Lucy Peavler; her stepfather, Leslie Peavler; her father, John Hampton; her sisters, Ida Whittaker and Esta Hayden; her half-brother, Joe Hampton; and her half-sister, Betty Williams.

Survivors include her daughter, Debbie Miles and husband Ken of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two sons, Kenneth West and wife Jacqueline, and Kevin West and wife Julie, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her lifelong friend, Annette Horton of Amarillo, Texas; and half-sisters, Carolyn Jones and Lynda Curtis.
