Doris D. Workman

Doris D. Workman, 95, of Pampa, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022, in Pampa.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Doris will be available for viewing from 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM on Thursday, 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM on Friday, and 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM on Saturday.

Doris was born on July 22, 1927, in Chelsea, Oklahoma to Richard Edward and Edith Seely Heape. She was a proud citizen of the Cherokee Nation, along with her father and two sisters. In 1946, Doris married the love of her life, Bill Workman, and had one son together, Mark. The couple moved to Pampa in 1961. 

Doris earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Business, English, and Education. She and her son graduated with their Master’s degree together. She was a college professor at McLennan and El Reno Community Colleges. In addition to her higher education careers, she worked for Cree Oil Company and the Petro Lewis Corporation. As an assistant to Congressman Bob Price, she had the opportunity to meet a number of presidents and astronauts. One of her most cherished memories was of her time shared with President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and sister, Arthurleen.

She is survived by her son, Mark E. Workman and wife Karen of Bryan; granddaughter, Erica Webb; her sister, Judith (Heape) Shannon of Nevada; and many other extended family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Woody Guthrie Folk Music Center, 320 S. Cuyler St., Pampa, TX, 79065 in her memory.
