Dorothy Evelyn Walker, 90, went to be with the Lord on July 18, 2021 in Lexington, OK.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 PM, Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born on March 1, 1931 to Thomas and Elitha Mercer in Covington, Oklahoma. She was the last of 12 children and was raised mostly by her father and older siblings after her mother’s death at age 13. After graduating from high school in Guthrie, Oklahoma in 1949, she moved to Pampa, Texas where she worked for Moses and later for the telephone company as an operator.

In January of 1955, she met Jimmy Walker through Jimmy’s aunt and uncle. They began dating and six months later they were married on June 18, 1955 and just celebrated their 66th anniversary. In March of 1956 they had an only child, a son they named Randall. They remained in Pampa until 1958 and then moved to White Deer, Texas where they remained until recently. While in White Deer, she became a home maker and focused on raising Randy. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of White Deer and served as the church hostess for almost 20 years. She had a keen eye for fashion and was always dressed to impress. She loved to shop and dress up. She was fancy.

She became a grandmother in 1975 and spent many years with her grandchildren adapting to the role of grandmother very well. She shopped and spoiled them and sent them home. She enjoyed the fashion shows the kids would put on after a day of shopping with grandma.

In 1993 Jimmy retired, and they enjoyed traveling to the Lake Texoma, Lake City, Colorado, and to Donna, Texas. They had many friends that they met up with at all three locations. Those friends became family to them, and they made so many wonderful memories over the years. They would spend the time in between locations at Randy’s house celebrating holidays and birthdays.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings: Glen, Homer, Clara , Arlene, Grace, Nora, Paul, Clyde, Curly, Imogene, & Dwayne; and by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Jimmy of the home; a son, Randy Walker and his wife Tricia of Wichita Falls, TX; four grandchildren, Alissa Harris and her husband Jay of Redfield Arkansas, Angie Grimsey and her husband John of Washington, OK, Cory Walker and his wife Katrina of Washington, OK, and Nicholas Walker of Seattle, Washington. She was the great grandmother to 12 great grandkids ad a great-great-granddaughter who she loved with all of her heart and they called her Great.
