Eddie Barnett

December 23, 1946 — June 6, 2025

Pampa, Texas

Eddie Barnett, 78, of Pampa, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2025 in Amarillo.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Friday, June 13, 2025 at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Pastor Chris Condit of Hillside Christian Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Eddie was born on December 23, 1946 to Cecil and Boots Barnett. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1965 and soon after high school he enlisted in the National Guard. He served in the reserves for 6 years. Right out of high school, Eddie went to work for Carlson and Craddock with his uncle Ralph Barnett. He was only on the job for a few months when his uncle unexpectedly passed on the job. Eddie never could return to work there after that day. Eddie stayed in Pampa and on July 20, 1967, he married his high school sweetheart, Helen Betchan. They celebrated 56 ½ years before she passed away on November 14, 2023.

Eddie and Helen stayed in Pampa and he went to work for Cabot Corporation Machinery Division. He worked there until the early 80’s, when he then transferred to the oil and gas division. Eddie worked through many company name changes during his 52 years and retired in 2017. He cherished Helen and the girls and was an amazing protector and provider. He was a loving grandfather to his 5 grandsons.

As a family they enjoyed camping at many different lakes and in the mountains in Stonewall Colorado at Cabot Ranch. He enjoyed hunting small game, fishing, time at the gun range, metal bugging with his friend Joe Brown, and woodworking. Eddie was a simple man of few words. When he spoke, we listened.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe Barnett; brother-in-law, Fred Betchan, Jr.; sister-in-law, Joyce Hadley; and a grandson, Charley Bural.

Eddie is survived by two daughters, RaNita Cook and husband Tom of Amarillo, and Gina Gilmore and husband David of Katy; grandsons, Ethan, Britton, and Parker Cook, all of Amarillo, and Hunter and Logan Gilmore, both of Katy; brother, Jerry Barnett and wife Rhonda of Pampa; sisters-in-law, Deborah Parsons and husband Jim, Charlene Williams and husband Larry, Becky Campbell and husband Richard, and Neva Sledge and husband Scott; brothers-in-law, Levi Bailey III and wife Carla, Larry Hadley, Brent Bailey and wife Anna; and numerous other nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Memorials can be sent to Volleys for Veterans, c/o Doug Messer, P.O. Box 20202, Amarillo, TX 79114.
