It is with profound sadness that the family of Elizabeth "Betty" Johnson announces her peaceful passing on July 16, 2026, at the age of 92, after a brief illness. Betty was surrounded by the love of her family and friends in her final moments.
A funeral mass to celebrate Betty's life will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 810 W. 23rd Ave, Pampa, Texas with Rev. Guadalupe Mayorga, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
A rosary and vigil will be held at 6:00 pm, Monday, at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel.
Betty was born on November 21, 1933, in Groom, Texas, to Bert and Ida Mary Berres. She grew up in a nurturing family environment, where she developed a love for music, particularly the piano, which became a lifelong passion. Betty graduated from Groom High School in 1951.
On August 26, 1952, Betty married the love of her life, Hubert Johnson, in her hometown of Groom. Together, they built a beautiful life and family. Betty and Hubert shared a passion for dancing, from the waltz to the jitterbug, and they delighted in every moment on the dance floor.
Betty's professional journey took her to St. Vincent de Paul Church in Pampa, where she served as a secretary for 20 years. Her dedication and organizational skills led her to the role of office manager at the American National Insurance office in Pampa, where she worked for another 25 years.
A devout member of the St. Vincent's community, Betty was actively involved in the St. Vincent’s Altar Society and the Women's Council.
Betty's creative spirit found expression in painting, color pencil drawing, and crossword puzzles, pursuits she enjoyed in her later years. Her artistic endeavors were a testament to her vibrant personality and zest for life.
Betty was predeceased by her loving husband, Hubert Johnson; her parents, Bert and Ida Berres; a brother, Burdette Berres; a sister-in-law, Pearl Berres a daughter-in-law, Rose Johnson; and a cherished granddaughter, Valorie Unruh.
She is survived by her devoted son, Chris Johnson, and his wife, Jean Ann. Betty was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Ross Johnson (Toni), Michelle Elkins (Frank), Scott Johnson (Bryanna), Melanie Thomas (Matt, Bryan Johnson (Tiffany), and grandson-in-law Phillip Unruh. Her embrace extended to 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Pampa Nursing Center and Pampa Regional Medical Center, including Doctor Smith, for their compassionate care and dedication during Betty's final days. We would also like to thank her roommate at the nursing home, Connie Shedeck. She was a God send. With Bettys ever worsening dementia, Connie kept her aware of things at the nursing home and was a very good friend.
Betty Johnson's life was a testament to love, service, and joy. Her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
