Gary Dale Herber

Gary Dale Herber, 79, of Pampa, Texas, was called to be with the Lord on December 29, 2019.

Memorial services will be 3:00 PM Friday, February 21, 2020, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Darrouzett, with family and friends, officiating. Inurnment will follow at Darrouzett Cemetery. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. 

He was the son of George and Martha (Houser) Herber.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Harold Lee and Edward “Ed” Herber; three sisters: Josephine “Josie” Hancock, Ruth Gooch, and Ruby Steinle; and brother-in-law: Cecil Gooch.

Gary was born on Nov. 22, 1940 in Darrouzett, Texas. He was born and raised in this small town. His parents owned and operated the Herber Grocery. Gary worked at the family store growing up. Eventually graduated from Darrouzett High School and continued with his Master’s in Mathematics from West Texas University. Gary loved God, teaching, sports, sales, and cherished his daughter, grandkids, and many nieces and nephews. He was a proud Papa and Dad.

Gary leaves behind: one daughter: Shanda Tompkins, James Tompkins (loved as a son); four grandchildren: Sheril, Elijah, Brooklyn, and Isaiah Tompkins; one brother: Harry Herber and wife, Nadine, and along with many nieces and nephews.
