Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Joe was born on June 4, 1942, one of four sons to Glen and Jewel Greer. He grew up, attended school, and lived his entire life in Pampa. After high school, he joined the workforce. Joe had a stint working as a highline repairman, this job allowed him to travel and see a lot of the state of Texas. Eventually, he entered the oil & gas industry, and within this career, Joe worked for several different drilling outfits. He loved his job and industry, and he would work until his mid-70s and retire after 45 years of service.
As a young man, Joe was a fan of boxing and participated in Golden Gloves in his youth. He also liked to watch and attend speed racing events. Joe loved collecting and shooting guns and was a longtime golfer who kept golfing until his body could no longer continue. But what he appreciated the most was music. Joe was an extremely gifted musician who could play any music by ear and had many opportunities to perform with several country & western and rock and roll musicians.
He will be remembered as a strong and quiet man who exuded gentlemanly behavior and conduct. Joe never had a bad word to say about anybody, and if he gave you his word, he kept his promise. He will be missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Jewel Greer; and three brothers, Leland, John Franklin, and Laven.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Leah Roberts and husband Billy of Ft. Worth; two sons, Stuart Greer of Ft. Worth, and Erich Greer and wife Amy of McKinney; two grandchildren, Katy Martinez and husband August of Ft. Worth, and Amy Griffin and husband Cary of Denton; two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Alanna; special nephew, James Greer and wife Dana; special niece, Vickie Ferguson and husband Gene; life-long best friend, Jim Stanley, and other extended family.
