Gerald David Johnson, 81 years and 10 months, of Hico, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 in Hico.

 

Services will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 27, 2023 at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Thacker Haynes, pastor at McLean Methodist Church, Trent Sisemore, and Randy Stalls, officiating. Burial will follow at Mobeetie Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

 

Visitation will be at held on Sunday, February 26, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

 

Gerald was born on April 22, 1941 in Wheeler to Shelby David Johnson and Bonnie Fay Childress Johnson. He attended school in Pampa and was a graduate of Pampa High School. After graduation, Gerald began his career as a rancher. He later worked as a driver for “Tom’s  Peanut Wagon” before deciding it just wasn’t for him. Gerald also drove several trucks and owned a dirt contracting business but loved nothing more than ranching. When he wasn’t working on the ranch, he enjoyed roping. He married Lynn Power in 1985. Gerald was a member of the Erath County Cowboy Church.

 

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Shelby and Bonnie Johnson; and one sister, Virginia Treat.

 

He is survived by his wife, Lynn Johnson of the home; four children, Kevin Johnson and wife Tammye of Ringling, Oklahoma, Marilyn Berry and husband Jim Bob of Iredell, Bryan Johnson and wife Paige of McLean, and Monica Ledford and husband Jay of Pampa; three grandchildren, Chase Berry and wife Melissa, Stormie Smith and husband Coby, and Karson Johnson and wife Saige; his favorite great-grandchild, River Ridge Berry; three siblings, Frank Johnson and wife Eula, Jack Johnson, and Janice Matthews and husband Eddie; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of dear family friends.
