Herschel Louis Burns, 87, of Pampa, went to his heavenly home on November 5, 2026, in Pampa, Texas.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday morning, November 9, 2026, at the Memory Gardens Mausoleum with Pastor Paul Hudson of Bible Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Mausoleum under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Herschel was born on September 8, 1939, in Tuttle, Oklahoma to Jesse and Goldie Burns. After graduating high school, he attended Baptist Bible College. Herschel graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theology and went on to serve as pastor of Prospect Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri. He later moved to Pampa, Texas, where he served as transportation supervisor for Pampa Independent School District. This was a career that he took great pride in, and he worked hard to make sure all the students were transported to and from school safely. Herschel would retire from PISD after 23 years of service. He was also a patriotic man who served in the National Guard of Texas.
The biggest importance to Herschel outside of his family was serving his Lord and church. He was a very faithful man who supported his church, Bible Baptist Church and loved to spread the gospel. Herschel could be found canvassing the streets of Pampa, Texas, to bring the word of Christ to all those who would engage him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Golden and Jesse Burns.
Herschel is survived by his two sons, Shannon Burns of Austin, Texas, and Shawn Burns of Dallas, Texas; his daughter, Sherri Rogers of Wylie, Texas; grandchildren Sasha Kaye Rogers, Ellis Burns and great-grandson Ezra Rivera, and his brother, Dwight Burns of Plainview, Texas.
