Janie Burns Swindle, 89, of Pampa, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at her home.
Services will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Pastor Jimmye Cole, retired Nazarene pastor, Pastor Michael James, pastor at Church of the Nazarene, and Pastor Thomas Miller, spiritual provider with BSA Hospice, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at the funeral home.
Janie was born on January 9, 1936 in Bellevue to Lee and Faye Burns. She married Tommie Dene Swindle on May 22, 1951 in Henrietta. They moved to Wichita Falls and later to Pampa in 1952, where she resided until her passing. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene since 1958.
Janie worked at the Pampa News office and the Salvation Army. She volunteered at the Tralee Crisis Center until her health no longer allowed her to. Janie enjoyed sewing, reading, and collecting angels. She loved gathering with her family, especially at Christmas and Thanksgiving. Janie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommie Swindle; her parents, Lee and Faye Burns; her daughter, Phyllis Fleetwood; two sons, Tommy Lee Swindle and Donald Swindle; one grandson, Joshua Lee Swindle; two brothers, Corky Burns and Clyde Burns; and one sister, Juanita Curtin.
Janie leaves behind her special granddaughter, Ashley Swindle, who was always there to help her and several other grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
