Jerry was born on December 25, 1936 in Spearman to Novelene and Byron Simpson.  Jerry grew up in Mobeetie, where he worked alongside his father at the family Diamond Shamrock service station.  He graduated from Mobeetie High School in 1955. After graduation, he married the love of his life, Maurea “Reacie” Godwin on December 31, 1955. Following his graduation and marriage, he worked several odd jobs until he found his love, the Bell Service Station on Hobart Street in Pampa.  Unfortunately, a car collided with the station and the business had to close its doors.  Jerry then spent the remainder of his career working in the oil fields of the Texas Panhandle.  He eventually bought Nutro Oil Field Chemicals where he sold the chemicals and treated oil wells until he retired at the age of 75.

Jerry was extremely active in the First Baptist Church of Skellytown, singing in the church choir.  He instilled a love for the Lord into the hearts of his family.  He could always be seen with an infectious smile on his face while making up crazy songs about his kids, grandkids, and friends.

As an avid outdoorsman he could be found on a favorite waterhole fishing.  Family vacations were spent in Lake City, Colorado or near a mountain stream.  Jerry also loved to be out in nature hunting for wild game or looking for Indian artifacts.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Norvel Simpson, and by his grandson, Trevor Burrell.

His survivors include his wife, Maurea “Reacie” Simpson of the home; two daughters, Tina Short and husband Roger of Canyon and Teri Grange and husband Joe of White Deer; a son, Tim Simpson and wife Ronda of Thomas, OK; a sister, Melba Darnell of Mobeetie; a brother, Jimmie Simpson of Kathleen, Georgia; and by 10 Grandchildren, Shirece Bruce, Alyssen Short, Alyssa Wilson, Myles Simpson, Quentin Simpson, Brandi Lohberger, Penny Armstrong, Kelsey Welch, Tish Thomason, Cari Ash; and by other extended family.

Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church of Skellytown, P.O. Box 176 Skellytown, TX 79080.
