Jerry Lyn South

Jerry Lyn South went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at his home in Pampa, Texas.

A celebration of life service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Norman Rushing, pastor, and Bryan South, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Visitation will be held before the service beginning at 10:00 AM.

Jerry was born September 9, 1929 in Sulphur Bluff, Texas to his parents, A.D. and Wilda South. He was one of seven children. Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Jean Tumbleson on July 7, 1949. They had two sons, Eddie Lyn South and Bryan Lee South.

Jerry and his family moved to Pampa, Texas during the summer of 1965 when he began working for Celanese Chemical until his retirement in 1990. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, gardening, "tinkering" in his shop, going to the car races in Amarillo, sports, watching the Dallas Cowboys, helping others, spending time with family, and being involved in Central Baptist Church.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, A.D. and Wilda South; brother, George South; sisters, Daisey Singleton, Boodie Kerr, and Martha Pickerl.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Barbara; two sons, Eddie South and wife Yvonne of Burleson, and Bryan South and wife Denise of Jasper; brother, James South of Lovington, New Mexico; sister, Peggy Martin of North Richland Hills; six grandchildren, Nathan South, Shiann South, Jered South, Kayla Aaron and husband TW, Benjamin South and wife Hannah, Zachary South and wife Samya; ten great-grandchildren, Shelton, Garrett and wife Emily, Parker, Brant, Shailey, Emily, Aubrey, Hudson, Carter, and Adilynn; two great-great grandchildren, Lydia and Travis.

The family wishes to thank Jerry's longtime friends, Donnie and Donna Bennett, Bob Steger, Brother Norman Rushing, and Central Baptist Church.
