Jimmy was born on January 19, 1941, in Ringgold, Texas to Leo and Louise Ellison. As a young boy, his family moved to Alabama. After graduating high school, Jimmy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Following his discharge, he entered the workforce, serving as a lifelong carpenter. Jimmy worked in both Texas and California, while in California, he served and became a Labor Union representative.
Jimmy returned to Texas and took work in the Dallas Fort Worth area, and that is where he would meet and later marry Sharon Larae Ellison on Aug. 31, 1979, in Fort Worth. They spent a few more years in DFW before they came to Pampa in 2008 to be closer to family. Sharon would precede him in death in 2013.
Jimmy was a highly intelligent man who had a photographic memory. He could recall many significant historical events and list off any sports stats that he was interested in. He loved college football and particularly the University of Alabama--- Roll Tide! Jimmy was generally a quiet man, but he loved his family and when he moved back to Pampa, he was able to connect with family he never met before which gave him much pride and enjoyment.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Leon Ellison and Glenn Ellison; and two sisters, Janet Barbee and Linda Austin.
Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Leigh Ellison of Las Vegas, Nevada; two grandchildren, Paul and Jimmy; six great grandchildren; sister, Brenda Donelson; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
