Joe B. Davis

Joe B. Davis, 98, of Amarillo, and formerly of Pampa, passed away on August 2, 2026, in Amarillo.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor Terry Hovey of Stinnett Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 7:30 PM, Friday at the funeral home.

Joe was born on March 1, 1928, in Abilene, TX to Hubert Carl and Veda Davis. As a young boy, he travelled and lived in various cities due to his father’s career, but they eventually settled in Ennis, TX where he graduated from high school. After graduating, he attended college for a year before serving in the U.S. Army. Following his service, he returned to West Texas State College, now WTAMU, to finish his degree.

During college, he met the love of his life, Jerry Johnson, and they would be the first couple to get married in the West Texas State College chapel on November 22, 1950. Thereafter, they would start their family, having two daughters, and spend 51 blessed years together before Jerry’s passing in 2002.

Joe would come to Pampa in 1953 to begin his long career at Celanese. He worked as an inspector for over 32 years before his retirement. Joe found companionship again when he met Peggy Sheets. He and Peggy would live both in Texas and Florida during the different seasons before she preceded him in death in 2016.

When Joe was a younger man, he was very active civically and recreationally. He served on numerous boards that included being the past president of the Panhandle Chapter of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, Top of Texas Kiwanis, and the Tennis Association of Pampa, among others. Joe was a lifetime avid tennis player who played in college and until he turned 80. He also was a passionate golfer who tried to play as often as possible.

Joe was a quiet but very likeable person. It did not matter what setting he was in, whether it was in the workplace, golf course, or assisted living, Joe always made many friends. He will be remembered as a loving and patient man who his family will miss dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two spouses; and a brother, Hubert Edward Davis.

Joe is survived by his two daughters, Ruth Ann Noe and husband David of Perryton, TX and Kathy McEntyre and husband David of Stinnett, TX; four grandchildren, Dustin Noe and wife Lisa of Cushing, OK, Megan Johnson and husband Donnie of Pryor, OK, Jared McEntyre and wife Katie of Klein, TX, and Jay McEntyre of Amarillo, TX; great grandchildren, Daniel Noe, Braylon Johnson, Rylan Johnson, Finn McEntyre, Fallon McEntyre, and Ferryn McEntyre; brother-in-law, L.N. Johnson; one nephew; seven nieces; and other extended family members.

The family would like to extend gratitude to Brenda Christy, Kim, Sandra, Ayanna, and MJ of Care Cottage and the BSA Wound Care Clinic.
