John Adrian Mead

John Adrian Mead, 82, of Pampa, Texas, passed away on November 19, 2022.

A private burial placing John with his parents will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

John was born on March 23, 1940, in Pampa, Texas, to Clyde Cecil and Madge Edna Mead. He was Valedictorian of his Pampa High School senior class, graduating in 1958. He graduated from Tulane University in 1961, after which he continued post-graduate studies at Northwestern University. A Fulbright Scholar, John spent 15 months in Ghana, West Africa, pursuing his studies in anthropology, and served two years in the United States Army before returning to Pampa to care for his parents.

A lifelong learner, John was an avid supporter of the Lovett Memorial Library, where he worked for many years.

John was a loving son, brother, and uncle.  He is survived by a sister, Marilyn Whisenand, of San Clemente, California, and two nieces, Jennifer McCain, San Diego, California, and Melissa Mersch, Phoenix, Arizona.
