John Paul Rush, 56, of Amarillo passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026 in Amarillo.
Viewing will begin at 12:00 PM on Thursday, January 15, 2026 and will be available from 8:00-8:00 PM on Friday, January 16, 2026 at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory. Private family services will be at a later date. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
John was born July 3, 1969 in Vinita, Oklahoma to John and Ava Rush. He attended high school at Vinita High School and Skiatook High School. After high school, he attended Amarillo College for a short time. John was a master carpenter, he and his brother trimmed houses for over 12 years. He was a hard worker and eventually became a machinist. John worked for over 30 years as a machinist at Amarillo Gear and his most recent employer was Midwest Machinery.
John enjoyed tinkering around his house. He also enjoyed spending time fishing, cooking out, and collecting all types of things. John was also known to be a very good pool player. He was a great storyteller; he had a way of keeping people’s attention. His funny sense of humor and his loud laugh was always the center of attention. John kept his friend circle small; his friends were all very important to him. He loved his two granddaughters and nieces and nephews and enjoyed spending time with all of them.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his sister, Lesa Rush and husband Roy Blackwood of Springdale, Arkansas; brother, Joe Rush and wife Shyla of Pampa; step son, Sean Edwards and his mother Kathy Edwards of Amarillo and the entire Krobot family; two granddaughters; three nieces, Cheyenne Rush, Rebecca Coffey and husband Seth, and Kristina Brown; a nephew, Jory Nall; and two great nephews, Jaden Rush and Eli Middlebrook.
