John was born on March 22, 1949, in Charleston, West Virginia, to Betty and John Steed. The family moved around a lot causing John to grow up in many different places. After graduating High School, John joined the United States Navy and became a hospital corpsman. During this time in the Navy, John would meet the love of his life, Patty Price, who was also a hospital corpsman. The two of them were married on October 21, 1967, and the two of them would go on to have four children. John would eventually be honorably discharged from the navy and graduated from West Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He worked various accounting jobs in Amarillo over the years. John could be described as a true family man while raising his children, they have many fond memories of playing every sport possible with their father.

John was an avid history fan and was especially fond of World War II, he was very well educated on the subject from the many books he read over the years. He also found immense joy in putting together and collecting model aircraft. In his later years he had a passion for fellowship and loved spreading his love for the Lord to whoever would listen. John will be remembered for his strong faith, his dedication to his family, and his passion for history.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Otto Steed, and Betty Short Steed; and a sister, Angela Price.
