Johnny Downs, 74, of Pampa, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026 in Amarillo.
Viewing will be Wednesday and Thursday, June 10 and 11, from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Rick Parnell officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Johnny was born March 28, 1952 in Lubbock to Jesse and Melva Downs. In 1958, Johnny’s family moved to Pampa and he graduated from Pampa High School in 1970. After high school, he attended college for a few years before entering the workforce. For most of his career, he was a welder and pipeline inspector. Johnny also spent about 10 years at Hoechst Celanese as an operator. He was a hard worker and had a strong work ethic.
He married Brenda Colson on September 5, 1985 at Central Baptist Church in Pampa. They were married just short of 38 years before she passed away on August 15, 2023.
Johnny enjoyed spending time at the lake water skiing and relaxing. He also loved going to Red River. Spending time with his whole family was very special to him and they made a lot of great memories. He also rode dirt bikes and loved riding his Harley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Keely Downs; and a grandson, Hunter Handley.
Survivors include his two sons, Jeremiah Downs and wife Kaylynn of Pampa and Jason Downs and wife Jana of Borger; step-son, Ryan Handley and wife DeAnn of Amarillo; step-daughter, Brandi Wheat and husband David of Denison; grandchildren, Ayden, Zoe, Jesse, Karter, Brenner, Caelen, Laura, Addison, Blaine, Jarren, Zachariah, Kendall, Asher, Leann, Hailey, Faith, Hayden, Cody, Sienna, Hutson, and Ethan; several great grandchildren; his sister, Debbie Downs Bullard and husband Rick of Pampa; and his two dogs, Harley and Hallie.
The family would like to thank Interim Hospice and the caregivers, Melissa, Rosa, Laticia, and Patsy for the love and care they showed to Johnny.
