Joyce Gething

Joyce Gething, 62, of Pampa, passed away on May 11, 2022, in Amarillo.

Celebration of life memorial services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the Kentucky Avenue Church of Christ with Scott Futrell, minister, officiating. Joyce will be later interred by family at the Gething Ranch. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Joyce was born on October 30, 1959, in Doniphan, MO to Ramona and Orbra Griffin. She grew up, attended and graduated from high school in Doniphan, MO. After graduating, she enrolled at Arkansas State University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in education. Joyce later came to the Panhandle of Texas and started her career teaching kindergarten at Lefors. While in Texas and by chance she met the love of her life, Grant Gething at a friend’s house near Mclean. They later married on November 25, 1994, in her hometown at the Church of Christ in Doniphan, MO.

Joyce was a longtime educator for the Lefors Independent School District, a career and service that spanned 32 amazing years and several different subjects and ages. During her tenure, she helped many students and had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way.

When Joyce was not at school, she truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family, baking, hosting gatherings, spending time with her nephews and nieces, and providing for her Texas and Missouri families. She had a love for the family dogs and enjoyed spending every moment she could with her son. Joyce found a lot of peace spending time at the ranch and being one with nature. She touched many lives with her generosity and passion for life. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, teacher, and friend.

She was preceded in death by her father; two sisters, Virginia Freeman and Sharolyn Griffin; her mother-in-law, Grace Gething, and by her father-in-law, Bill Gething.

Joyce’s survivors include her husband, Grant Gething of the home; a son, Jacob Gething and wife Hayley of Pampa; mother, Ramona Griffin of Doniphan, MO; sister, Kathy Joplin and husband Lyndall of Poplar Bluff, MO; brother, Ron Griffin and wife Rachel of Doniphan, MO; and by nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family.
