Joyce Hammon, 87, of Pampa, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026 in Pampa.
Services will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Hobart Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Mullins, pastor at Hobart Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Joyce’s service will be livestreamed through the Hobart Baptist Church, Facebook page.
Joyce was born on December 18, 1938 in Bokchito, Oklahoma to Loyd and Lillian Brister. She attended school in Pritchard, Oklahoma. After finishing school, Joyce married George Anderson. They would later divorce. Joyce would find love again and married Melvin Hammon on December 19, 1964. The very next day they packed up and moved to Pampa. She worked at Marie Foundations for a few years and was instrumental in starting Hammon’s Janitorial. However, her favorite job was being a stay-at-home mom.
Joyce enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, and embroidery. She was a gifted cook and made every holiday meal until she was no longer able to. She was generous and kind. Making sure her family, friends, and neighbors were happy and fed was how she showed her love. She was very punctual and made it known that you were to be at the table by the time dinner was ready. Joyce was firm in her rules with her children, but always made sure they knew how loved they were.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Loyd and Lilliam Brister; one daughter, Kathy Rodriguez; one brother, Leroy Brister; and two sisters, Brenda Brooker and Glenda Cox.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Melvin Hammon of the home; children, Roy Anderson and wife San of Pampa, John Hammon and wife Daniele of Kerrville, Donna Mendez and husband Jimmie of Lubbock, Lavon Bogle and husband Dewayne of Pampa, and Karen Hammon of Shawnee, Oklahoma; siblings, Jo Ann Tallant and husband Melvin of Winthrop, Arkansas and Loyd Belton Brister, Jr. of Hobbs, New Mexico; 22 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great grandchildren and four on the way; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Pampa Nursing Center for the love and care they showed Joyce during her time there.
