Joyce Mathis

Joyce Mathis, 88, of Pampa, passed away on September 22, 2026, in Pampa.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Zack Greer, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

She was born on April 25, 1938, to James Alvin and Ruby Bell Farnsworth Miller in Amarillo, Texas. Joyce grew up in Canadian, Texas and graduated from Canadian High School. She married Jess “Hoppy” Mathis on June 1, 1956, in Pampa. Joyce was devoted to her children choosing to be a stay-at-home mom while they were in school.

She later worked at various places until her retirement. She was a member of First Baptist Church. The thing that brought her the most joy was spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She loved attending their sports, dance, and singing events.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Jess; her parents, James and Ruby Miller; a granddaughter, Jennifer Lozano; four brothers; and one sister.

She is survived by her daughter, Janice Gulick and husband Gary of Pampa; son, Brad Mathis of Pampa; granddaughter, Denise Browning and husband Jeffrey of Pampa; grandson, Dustin Mathis and wife Cynthia of Pampa; granddaughter, Melisa Gulick of Durham, North Carolina; granddaughter, Kathlyn Cox of Collierville, Tennessee; brother, Gene Miller of Pampa; great-grandchildren, Addyson, Jackson, Sunshiine, Karaline, and Jerald; and numerous great-grand fur babies.
