Judy was born on August 20, 1943 in Nowata, Oklahoma to Ralph Flanagan and Betty Jo Taylor Flanagan. Ralph passed away during World War II in the European Arena when Judy was still a toddler. Her mother later married Harold Covey and he would raise Judy as his own child. Judy was a talented barrel racer and spent much of her time competing in rodeos with her brother, Joe. She also played the flute and was a twirler for the Nowata High School Band. Judy was elected the band queen during her senior year. She graduated from high school in 1961 and went on to attend Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College.
She met David Livingston in 1962 while he was working at his family’s laundromat. They were married on December 21, 1963 in Nowata after David had completed basic training. During David’s time in the military, they lived at Fort Smith in Arkansas and then Fort Bliss in El Paso. Judy was a devoted wife and mother taking care of her family as they moved all over the country. In 1974, they settled in Lefors and made it their home. Judy went to work for The Mundy Companies in 1979 and was a dedicated employee until her retirement in 2007.
As a family they enjoyed riding motorcycles, Lendi rode on the back of Judy’s bike and Roy with David. They would go on day trips and Judy would pack a picnic lunch for them to enjoy when they stopped. When their children got older, Judy and David started making cross-country trips, even going all the way to West Virginia once. She also enjoyed camping with her family. Judy and David were members of the Panhandle Boat and Ski Club at Lake Greenbelt for several years. She earned her Polar Bear patch by skiing each month for an entire calendar year. Judy was a wonderful quilter and enjoyed the companionship and quilting retreats with her fellow members of the Panhandle Piecemakers Quilt Guild. She also taught the 4-H sewing project for many years and stitched and altered countless garments for family and friends. She was a loving “Nana,” “Grandma,” and “G.G.” to her five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, she rarely ever missed one of their events.
Judy was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Lefors where she served faithfully. She was chairman of the kitchen committee and the counting committee; she volunteered her time during Vacation Bible School and organized funeral meals, the food ministry, and the munchie bag ministry. Judy also served her community as a volunteer firefighter with the Lefors VFD in the 1970s and 80s and was one of the first EMTs in Lefors. Judy served Gray County as an election judge for many years. She dedicated her life to serving the Lord, her family, and the community she loved dearly. The loss of Judy’s presence will be felt deeply throughout the community and in her family.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, David Livingston; her parents, Ralph Flanagan and Betty Jo and Harold Covey; and two brothers, Jerry Covey and Jim Covey.
She is survived by her two children; Lendi Jackson and husband Barry of Lefors and Roy Livingston and wife Charlotte of Pampa; five grandchildren, Steven Livingston and wife Brittney of Gruver, Cory Jackson and wife Alex of Panhandle, Tony Livingston and wife Misti of Seminole, Drake Jackson and wife Bailey of Amarillo, and Emily Sprouse and husband Jeremy of Lefors; 12 great-grandchildren, Reagan Livingston, RyLynn Livingston, Noah Livingston, Cason Jackson, Kyleigh Sprouse, Oaklee Livingston, Penny Jackson, Collyns Livingston, Jaxon Sprouse, Karleigh Sprouse, Jaeleigh Sprouse, and Jericho Sprouse; brother, Joe Covey and wife Nancy of Newcastle, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Janice Word of Lone Grove, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Ronnie Livingston and wife Janice of Dewey, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces and nephews.
