Katie "Dolly" Franklin Grimes

On December 12, 2025 Mrs. Katie "Dolly" Franklin Grimes passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 92 in Skellytown, Texas.

No services are scheduled at this time. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Katie, or Dolly as her mother nicknamed her because she was such a tiny baby, was born on November 2, 1933 to John Monroe Morris and Oda Mae Nichols in Quinton, Oklahoma. She was the youngest born in a family of five and was the mid-life baby. When she was 8 her father passed, and her and her mother moved to Modesto, California to be with her older siblings who had moved there for work.

She lived in many different places throughout California, Nevada and Arizona dealing in the second hand business, flipping houses and also was a CNA for many years. She was married to Lester Cheary, Eugene Kizarr, Clayton Overby, and David Grimes. She had three children Kathryn Ann, William "Bill" Lester, and Eugenia Mae.

Dolly loved to travel, spending time with her family, and doing her favorite past time hitting the casino to play some poker.

She moved to Texas with one of her granddaughters after she retired and lived there until her death.

She was proceeded in death by her husbands; and her son, William "Bill" Lester Cheary.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Ann Johnson and Eugenia Mae Bellis; her 9 grandchildren, Tamilyn, Jenae, Jessica, Jesse, Crystal, Billie Jo, Katie, Melissa and Alice; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
