Kay Donn Smith

Kay Donn Smith, 81, formerly of Pampa, passed away surrounded by her family on January 9, 2026, in Virginia Beach, VA.

Graveside memorial services will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Memory Gardens Mausoleum of Pampa with Rev. Wesley Vernatter, retired pastor, officiating. Local arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Kay was born in Pampa on January 25, 1944, to Joe (1916 - 1988) and Billie (1919 - 1986) Slater. Kay grew up in a large family, with three older sisters, Nadine Moore (1938 - 2022), Shirley Wyche (1941 - 2009), and Maxine Howell (1942 - 2025), an older brother, Wayne Slater of Pampa, and a younger brother, Leroy Slater (1948 - 2016). Kay graduated from the class of 1962 from Pampa High School.

In March of 1965, Kay married the love of her life, Anthony Smith (1942 - 1997). They welcomed their only child into their family a year later. Kay worked at Citizens Bank for 23 years before retiring. Kay moved to Virginia Beach, VA in 1999 to be with her daughter, Kim Etheredge and her grandsons, Brandon Etheredge, and Dustin Etheredge.

Kay loved spending time with her family, making candy with Dustin's fiancé Heather Holeman along with watching her grandsons and great granddaughters Lily Etheredge, Lucy Etheredge and great grandson, Brantley Etheredge grow up.

In addition to her immediate family, Kay is survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
