Lanell was born March 10, 1929 in Boswell, Oklahoma to James “Jim” Stephen Chandler and Hattie Myrtle (Young) Chandler. She married Ralph Riggs on July 3, 1946 in Boswell, Oklahoma and they moved to Pampa, Texas that same year. They were married 54 years when Ralph passed away in 2000.

Lanell worked for the Pampa ISD as a cafeteria worker at Wilson Elementary School. Ralph and Lanell also owned the Star Motel for 12 years and they owned a ranch in Mobeetie where they raised cattle, chickens and created countless memories for their children and grandchildren. Lanell attended the Nazarene Church where she gave her life to Jesus Christ. She later became a long-time member of Trinity Fellowship Church. Lanell was a woman of faith with strong Christian values and was steadfast, humble and deeply devoted. Her relationship with God was not something she simply spoke of; it was something she lived out every day. She was a prayer warrior and lifted up family and friends in prayer daily.

Lanell had a servant’s heart. She gave of herself quietly and consistently, never seeking recognition. She prepared meals, baked hot rolls, cleaned homes and gave away quilts to many family members and friends over her lifetime. She was faithful to attend church and volunteered at the Harvest House, the Trinity WearHouse and as a Dream Team member at Trinity Fellowship Church.

Lanell had a gentle soul, a generous spirit and hands that never rested. Whether it was a cozy quilt or a blooming garden, she had a way of creating comfort and joy in everything she touched. Quilting was more than a hobby. It was an act of love. Scraps collected over the years, woven together to form something beautiful and lasting. Her quilts, much like her life, were a patchwork of love, patience and purpose. Her sewing machine often humming from making clothes for her children to quilts for friends and neighbors.

Lanell loved to have a garden, especially flower beds which were vibrant, joyful and full of life. She found peace in the dirt and delight in every bloom. Her garden was a reflection of her heart: full of color, grace and growth. Each season brought new flowers yet, the love she poured into it was constant. She had a green thumb that could grow a bush from a stick.

She cherished the simple things: comfort of a handmade quilt, the joy of a fresh bloom, the quiet satisfaction of hard work, and especially being with her family. She leaves a legacy of warmth, creativity, love and compassion that will live on in each of us.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ralph Riggs, in 2000 and a son, Terry Riggs, in 1976, brothers, Roy Chandler, Aubrey Chandler, Elwood Chandler, Carl Chandler and sisters, Dorothy Sons, Mary Sue Riddle and Irene Eastwood.

Lanell is survived by three daughters and one son, Linda Pritchett and husband Tommy of Adamsville, TN, Jimmy Riggs and wife Gina of Cimarron, NM, Dolores Czesnowski and husband Joe of Pampa, TX, and Teresa Blunk and husband Johnny of Goldendale, WA; grandchildren, Eric Pritchett, Tanya Authement, Wayne Stanton, Cindy Riggs, Vanessa Riggs, Cody Barnhill, Travis Barnhill, Joe Czesnowski III, Jesse Czesnowski, Nathan Bailey, Lindsey Oonk and Lacy Bailey-Williams, 27 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the healthcare professionals who cared for Lanell through her years including Dr. Giang Nguyen, Dr. Laxmichand Kamnani, Dr. Nirmala Kamnani, Dr. Tanner Neuman and Interim Hospice. A special thanks to the staff at Meredith Court for their compassionate and loving care. Lanell loved the Meredith Court staff like her own family.
