Laverne Satterwhite Travis

Laverne Satterwhite Travis, 87, of Amarillo and formerly of White Deer, passed away on June 7, 2022 in Amarillo.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, June 17, 2022 at White Deer Cemetery with Ira Purdy, retired chaplain with BSA Hospice of the Southwest, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Laverne was born March 5, 1935 in Happy, Texas to Carl and Juanita McAdams. She graduated from White Deer High School in 1953. On August 22, 1953 she married Glenn Satterwhite, he passed away on July 9, 1972. Laverne earned her bachelor's degree from West Texas State University in May of 1972, she later obtained her master's degree from Texas Tech University in 1989. Laverne went to further her education at Middlebury College in Vermont. She enjoyed her time in education, teaching at White Deer ISD, Pampa ISD, Clear Creek ISD in Colorado, the American School in Mexico City, and finished her career with Texas Education Agency. Laverne married Floyd Travis on December 17, 1983, he passed away on October 17, 1999. In 2001, Laverne made her home in Amarillo. She was longtime member of the Church of Christ attending church in White Deer, University Church of Christ in Austin, and most recent Central Church of Christ in Amarillo. Laverne loved to travel, enjoyed her beautiful flower beds, and was a -wonderful seamstress. She loved her family and will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and 3 sisters, Rachel Husband, Ada Ruth McAdams, and Wanda Langston.

Survivors include her 3 daughters, DeLynn Satterwhite of Canyon Lake, Donna Urbanczyk and husband Jerry of White Deer, and Della Lummus and husband Russ of Amarillo; son, Gordon Satterwhite and wife Carol of Dripping Springs; Floyd’s sons, Barrett Travis and wife Deidre and Tim Travis and wife Tammie; brother, Carl McAdams and wife Margaret of Farris, Oklahoma; a special niece, Tammie O’Keefe of Lubbock; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
