Lewis Ellis, 91, of Pampa, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 in Amarillo.

Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, August 11, 2025 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor and Rev. Jim Sinyard, pastor of Carpenter’s Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory. The service will be livestreamed through the funeral home’s website.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, August 10, 2025 from 4:00-5:30 PM.

Lewis was born March 16, 1934 in Gainesville, Georgia to Henry and Ruth Ellis. Soon after high school, he married the love of his life, Tula Mae Coward. They married on May 30, 1953 in Hollis, Oklahoma, they were married for 69 years before she passed away on February 3, 2022.

Lewis was a devoted man of God who served as Pastor for many congregations that include Hope Baptist Church in Hollis, OK, FBC in Samnorwood, Central Baptist Church in Borger, FBC in Mobeetie, FBC in Hawley, FBC in Hedley, Hobart Baptist Church in Pampa, and FBC in Lefors. He retired from full time pastor at First Baptist Church of Lefors in 2002 after 17 years as pastor. Lewis continued serving the Lord after retirement, as he would fill the pulpit for many area churches as needed. Lewis was faithful in reading his Bible daily as well as his devotions. Every morning you could find him on his porch reading and praying. His prayers always included the missionaries and his church. He would pray specifically for each staff member at First Baptist Church every morning.

Lewis loved people and to talk to people. He was genuine and spoke from the heart in all of his conversations. Lewis enjoyed traveling and fishing whenever he had the opportunity. He will be missed dearly by his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Debra Matthews; two sisters, Cora Mann and Willanell Stacy; and two brothers; Hoyt Ellis and Horace Ellis.

Survivors include his two sons, Stan Ellis and wife Theresa of Rockport and Greg Ellis and wife Nanci of Booker; grandchildren, Chris Ellis and wife Cindy of Denver, CO, Mandy Ellis Alicea and husband Julio of Arlington, Matthew Ellis and wife Ginny of Big Spring, Jamie Scalf and wife Jane Ann of Peaster, and Joel Scalf and wife Heather of Amarillo; great-grandchildren; Blake Ellis and wife Elizabeth, Dylan Ellis, Zoey Ellis, Demi Ellis, Mason Young, Ashton Ellis, Sterling Ellis, Peyton Ellis, Luke Scalf, Lyla Scalf, Avery Scalf, and Liddy Scalf; and a great grandson, Rhodes Ellis; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family.
