Lowell Wayne “Stoney” Downey, 89, of Pampa passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 in Amarillo.

Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Highland Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Nachtigall, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Stoney will be available for viewing from 2:00 PM-8:00 PM on Wednesday, on Thursday from 8:00 AM- 8:00 PM, and 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM on Friday.

As per the family, masks are encouraged for the service.

Stoney was born to J.D. and Velma Downey in Erick, Oklahoma on May 5, 1931. He graduated from Erick High School. Before joining the Navy, Stoney was a farmer. Her served in the US Navy from 1950 until 1954 and was honorably discharged on November 1, 1954 as a boatswain’s mate third class. Stoney moved to Pampa in 1955 for a job as a crane operator at Ingersoll Rand, retiring after 34 years. Stoney married the love of his life, Inez, on December 23, 1967 and she preceded him in death on January 13, 2011. He received the job of stepdad to Gary Snider, Tom Snider, and Linda Snider, the last 3 children of 9, who still lived at home. After retirement Stoney loved to fish and, in the spring, and summer, he and Inez would camp for weeks at the lakes, they enjoyed in Oklahoma and Texas. They even ventured to South Texas and got to fish in the Gulf of Mexico. Stoney came to know the Lord in later years and began his journey of faith. He became a member of Highland Baptist Church and spent hours and hours in his Bible reading.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a sister, Donna Morgan; parents; 4 stepsons; and 1 stepdaughter.

Stoney is survived by his three stepsons, Jewell Snider and wife Beverly and Tom Snider, all of Pampa and Charlie Snider and wife Sue of Amarillo; stepdaughter, Betty Tuck and husband Bill of Winnsboro; daughter-in-law, Jana Snider; and very precious friends, Mike and Loria Tennison of Pampa.
