Marilyn Jane Richard Folsom Butler

July 1, 1931 — October 4, 2020

Marilyn Jane Richard Folsom Butler, 89, of Pampa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at Pampa Nursing Center following an extended battle with time.

Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, October 9, 2020 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Dale Meadows, officiating. A private family graveside will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. The service will be livestreamed at https://www.carmichael-whatley.com/page/live-streaming.

Masks are requested for all attending the service.

Marilyn was born and raised in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and graduated from South Side High School in 1949.  She worked a short stint with General Electric until family life called and was married in her parent’s home to William Folsom in 1950.  They had two children (Patricia and Diana) but William was the victim of an auto accident a few years later.  Marilyn met Don Butler and started a second marriage in Arkansas City, Kansas on December 6, 1958.  Don and Marilyn were married for 60 years until he succumbed to Alzheimer’s last year.

A highlight of every summer during this time was two weeks spent with their Cabot family at the BAR NI Ranch in Colorado.  For many years the Whiskey Creek upper campground had “reserved for Butler” on it.  Post retirement saw annual journeys to South Texas with friends, an Alaska trip and a cruise through the Panama Canal.

The Extension Homemakers Club was a long-term activity with Marilyn, serving as treasurer and secretary over the years.

We wish to thank the care givers at Coronado Healthcare, Meredith Place and Pampa Nursing Center where Marilyn and Don spent the last few years of life.

She leaves her sister Alice and her husband Lloyd Flowers of Phoenix, Arizona; brother Kenny and his wife Lois Richard of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; son Michael and his wife Teresa Butler of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; a daughter, Diana and her husband, Bob Herrington of Cheyenne, Wyoming; a son-in law Robert Pankratz of Amarillo; six grandchildren, five great grand-children and numerous nieces, nephews & cousins.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Ralph & Doris Richard, husbands William Folsom and Don Butler, sister Ann Richards and daughter Patricia Pankratz.
