Marjorie Mae “Mert” Woodward, 85, of Skellytown, entered into her heavenly home on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 with her family by her side.
Services will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 8, 2025 at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Zac Green, pastor at Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 7:30 PM on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
Marjorie was born on December 3, 1939 in Krum to Howard Melvin and Omie Isabelle Riley Johnson. She was raised in the Krum area where she attended school. Marjorie married Bennie Roy Woodward on March 22, 1957 in Decatur. They moved to Skellytown shortly after and arrived during the worst blizzard the panhandle had ever seen, which was the first time Marjorie had ever seen snow. She worked as an Avon lady for many years before going to work at White Deer ISD. Marjorie worked in the library and enjoyed spending time with the kids at school. She retired for less than a year before coming back to continue working. She officially retired in 2024 after her health no longer allowed her work.
Marjorie was hardworking and incredibly generous. She loved children and volunteered as a Sunday school teacher for several years. She was a devoted member of the Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ. Marjorie faithfully served her Lord by caring for others. She was very involved with the women’s prison ministry and enjoyed baking treats to deliver to those that were homebound. However, Marjorie’s greatest joy in life was raising children. She was lovingly called “Granny” by her grandchildren, her grandchildren’s friends, and even the children at school. Marjorie was a warm and loving mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family and her community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Roy Woodward; her parents, Howard and Omie Johnson; four siblings, Joyce Sauter, Donald Johnson, Tommy Johnson, and Terry Johnson; and one great-great granddaughter, Avery Elouise Miller.
Marjorie is survived by her two children, Gary Woodward of Skellytown and Darla Wilson of White Deer; four grandchildren, Cammie Woodward and wife Amy of White Deer, Shannon Hughes of Pampa, Jeremy Wilson of Skellytown, and Dakota Wilson and wife Abbi of Pampa; seven great-grandchildren, Sydney Miller and husband Jacob, Nikki Hughes, Ben Woodward, Abby Woodward, Nash Wilson, Jett Wilson, and Annalei Wilson; two great-great grandchildren, Bayleigh Miller and Cayden Miller; three siblings, Wilma “Pete” Lang, Raymond Johnson, and Linda George; four sisters-in-law, Jo Rochelle, Carolyn Hadley, Connie Baker, and Billie Lovinggood; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Memorials may be sent to the Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ, PO Box 2438, Pampa, Texas, 79066.
