Maurita Pitman, 78, of Pampa, passed away May 2, 2023, in Pampa.

 

Services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, May 5, 2023, at Cornerstone Baptist Church with Bro. Kyle Collins, an associate pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

 

Maurita was born on March 24, 1945, in Wheeler to C.H. and Reda Turner. She grew up in the Wheeler & Mobeetie and attended and graduated from Mobeetie High School in 1963. She came to Pampa in 1966 and became a long-time resident. She married Everett Blackwell, and they shared several good years before he preceded her in death. Maurita co-owned Blackwell Office Machines with Everett for several years. She found love again when she met Bob Pitman and they married on May 4, 2001, in Pampa. Bob later preceded her in death on June 30, 2022.

 

She loved the outdoors, and she enjoyed fishing and camping. Maurita also liked to do puzzles and always had one she was working on one. One of her biggest delights was collecting frog figurines. Maurita was a long-time member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Pampa. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

 

Maurita was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands; a brother, Davie Turner; a stepson, Rodney Pitman; and a stepdaughter, Becky Mooney.

 

Her survivors include a brother, J.W. Turner and companion, Selma Buske of Matador; four nieces, Heidi Baggerman and husband Eugene of Pampa, Julie Moore and husband Bruce of Athens, Carla Howard and husband Bill of Wheeler, and Teresa Culberson and husband John of San Angelo; nephew, Steve Turner and wife Melissa of Vincennes, Indiana; stepson, Shawn Pitman and wife Christie of Mansfield; a sister-in-law, Vangie Turner of Pampa; stepdaughter, Lisa Stone and husband Ray of Anton; two brothers-in-law, John Pitman of Lubbock and Carl Pitman and wife Sharon of Kempner; sister-in-law, Mary Vorheis of Clarendon; and several great nieces & great nephews; grandchildren and great grandchildren.
