William Michael McComas was born on September 23, 1950 in Leavenworth, Kansas to William Garland and Martha Leah Wright McComas. One of his favorite jokes was that he was born in Cell Block E, which always made his mother roll her eyes in dismay. When Mike was four years old, Montgomery Ward transferred his father to their store in Pampa. Mike was active in Boy Scouts, Optimist Club baseball and Babe Ruth League, where he made lifelong friends. In the spring of 1967, Bill McComas was transferred to the Montgomery Ward store in Sheridan, Wyoming. Mike graduated from Sheridan High School in 1969 and attended Sheridan Junior College, where his grades were withheld until he removed the car that he had disassembled in the school parking lot.

Following junior college, Mike worked on a fishing boat in Alaska for two summers. This experience left a deep impression upon his life, and he referred to this period often with great fondness. Mike lived in Boulder, Colorado for a few years, where he learned the trade of cement contracting. While visiting friends in Pampa, Mike and Jeanie Franklin renewed their life-long friendship, fell in love, and married in May of 1980. They joined First United Methodist Church and raised their two children, Katy and Matt, in Pampa. Mike was a devoted father and grandfather, always very interested and involved in the lives of his most treasured loved ones.

Mike was a very capable person; a quick learner who made his living in several diverse trades, but his greatest passion was cars and motor sports. He bought and sold racecars internationally and was an avid drag racer.

Throughout all his endeavors, one of his greatest joys was making and cherishing friendships. Mike made everyone feel important and special. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his vast repertoire of jokes. He truly gave others the gift of laughter and fun.

Over the past eight years, Mike dealt with two separate bouts of cancer, displaying grace and dignity. He had a deep belief in the sovereignty of God, which he learned at the feet of his grandmother Rose.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents.

A bright light has gone out in our lives.

The McComas family would like to extend gratitude and the upmost appreciation to Interim Hospice and all the full-time home health care providers that helped with Mike's care.
