Nickey Jay Green, 78, of Pampa, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at his home.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 24, 2025 at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor Joel Osborne, pastor at Fellowship Baptist Church, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Nickey was born on May 22, 1947, in Pampa to W.J. and Elsie Jonas Green. He attended Pampa schools before enlisting in the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. After his discharge, Nickey worked as a machinist for Panhandle Industrial. He married Gloria Smith on April 12, 1975. Nickey retired in the late 1990s.
Nickey was a hardworking man who cared deeply for his family. He had a sense of humor that kept you on your toes, a touch of orneriness that kept life interesting, and he was happiest at home surrounded by those he loved. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially eating cheeseburgers and vanilla malts, and watching television shows about airplanes, court programs, and crime stories. He also enjoyed spending time with his cats, Doc and Bud.
Nickey had a true gift for making people feel like family. Whether someone was connected to him by blood or not, he believed that family was something built through love. The idea of family meant anyone he cared for, and he lived that belief fully. One of his greatest joys was supporting his children and grandchildren. He never missed a concert, play, or event involving his grandchildren; showing up for his family was simply who he was. Above all,
Nickey was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.J. and Elsie Green; one son, Justin King; a sister, Jan McCarthy; a brother, Jerry Green; a niece, Cherry McCarthy; two brothers-in-law, Joe Smith and Jesse Smith, and his beloved cat Doc.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Green of the home; his children, Eli Green of Pampa, Danielle Green and wife Amanda of Ruckersville, Virginia, Angela Resendiz of Mesquite, Texas, Christina Nave and husband Brian of Pampa; his grandchildren, Michael West, Jaymison King, Tyler Green, Valerie Cano, Isaiah Ramos-Resendiz, Andrea Rodriguez, Alexis Ramos, and Grayson Green; three sisters-in-law, Alma Lewis of Pampa, Lori Smith of Pampa, and Mary Rider and husband Don of Corpus Christi; three brothers-in-law, Jimmy Smith of Amarillo, David Dykes of Wichita Falls, and Jackie Smith of Wichita Falls; numerous nieces and nephews, and his impish cat, Bud, who never left his side.
