Peggy was born on November 16, 1942, in Shidler, Oklahoma to Charles and Olivean Drake. As a young girl, she grew up in the Phillip’s Petroleum Company Sher-Han work camp, and she attended and graduated school in Gruver. At the age of nine, Peggy gave her heart to Christ, and thereafter her parents too would come to find the Lord. Shortly after graduating she would meet and later marry her true love, Mel Richey, on November 27, 1963, in Guymon, OK. She and Mel celebrated 60 wonderful years together before his passing in 2023.
Peggy and Mel would move to Pampa in 1979 for Mel’s work. After Mel’s retirement, they moved to Amarillo for a few years before returning to Pampa to be closer to family. They also spent a lot of their free time with family at their cabin in Eagle Nest where they built long and lasting memories with their children and grandchildren.
While living in Pampa during their first move, Peggy worked as a receptionist for the Cabot Research and Development department for many years before she retired in 1995. Although she worked hard in her career, her true love was being the best wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend she could be.
Peggy was a loyal, loving, generous, and the most hospitable woman you could know. She always made sure everyone she loved knew how much she cared for them. Peggy always seen to it that anyone she cared about had everything they needed. She was a terrific cook and one of her love languages was to cook and bake great meals for her family, friends, and those in need. Peggy will be remembered as a Godly and Christian woman who showed her family the true meaning of love and devotion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Bonnie Boring; and by sister-in-law, Alice Widener and brother-in-law, Dale Widener.
Peggy is survived by daughter, Charlene Gardner and husband Neal of Pampa; son, Tim Richey of Eagle Nest, New Mexico; grandsons, Tres Morris of Terlingua, Montana Richey of Pampa, Trenton Richey, Conner Richey, and River Richey, all of Eagle Nest, New Mexico, Tyler Morris and wife Brooke of Amarillo, and Tough Medina and wife Destiny of Council Grove, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Zane, Kimber, Briley, Renlye, Swayde, Ryatt, Elliot, and Emerson; and numerous other nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for Interim Hospice and their staff, and especially to Peggy’s special nurses and caregivers, Analee, Cindy, and Trina.
