Ramon G. Hernandez

Ramon G. Hernandez, 90, of Pampa, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at home.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Monday, February 22, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Taylor Elzner, associate pastor at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Mr. Hernandez was born February 25, 1930 in Pampa to Baltazar and Maria Gonzalez Hernandez. Ramon graduated from Pampa High School in 1948. He later graduated from West Texas State University with a degree in history and a minor in English. He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1951 until 1965 where he attended the Army Language School. Ramon served with the 41st R. S. M. in Germany for 30 months. He married Maria Espejo and she preceded him in death in 2014. Ramon was a teacher overseas in Russia, Germany, and Spain. During his retirement he loved to read, play golf, and stay current with the six languages he spoke. Ramon was also very interested in the current events of Pampa and the surrounding area. He was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church and Alpha Sigma Phi.

Survivors include three sisters, Mary Ellen Rodriguez and husband Tiburcio of Pampa, Becky Erickson and husband Al of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Lucy Cobb of Houston; two brothers, Tony Hernandez of Amarillo and Joaquin Hernandez of Seattle, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
