Richard Wade Nichols, 57, of White Deer, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, in Amarillo.

 

Services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 11, 2023 at First Baptist Church in Skellytown with Rev. Dr. Jerry Lane, retired pastor, officiating, and Pastor Carter Pirtle of First Baptist Church of Skellytown, assisting. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens in Pampa under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

 

Richard was born on May 13, 1965, in Pampa to Nick and Carolyn Nichols. He spent his first 17 years growing up at Shafer Camp, where life was one adventure after another. He attended Skellytown Elementary School and then high school in White Deer. He participated in football, basketball, band, and FFA, showing pigs and sheep. He graduated in 1983. Richard then attended Texas Tech where he graduated with a degree in Agricultural Education. After graduation, he moved to his farm in White Deer. He worked for Leake Repair, Celanese, and Phillips.

 

Richard loved his family, and he never met a stranger. He enjoyed visiting with everyone he met. Richard was an avid Texas Tech fan. His hobbies including cooking, listening to music, and getting together with friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clyde and Carrie Horner, and Eva Nichols; and one cousin, Keith Horner.

 

Richard is survived by his parents, Nick and Carolyn Nichols of Skellytown; his sister, Kelley Feerer and husband Russell of Logan, New Mexico; his niece, Megan Wood and husband Gus and their children, Bryce and Connor, all of Clayton, New Mexico; his aunt and uncle, Karen and Jimmie Horner of Amarillo; numerous cousins, Todd Horner and wife Lori and their family of Amarillo, Jim Nichols and wife Kim and their family of Shepherd, Montana, Ray and Sharon Nichols of Ardmore, Oklahoma; and his loyal dog, Jess, that he often referred to as his kid.
