Ronald Smith, 77, of Pampa, passed away on March 24, 2023, in Pampa.
Memorial services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor Jim Sinyard of the Carpenters’ Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Ronald was born on May 22, 1945, in Oakdale, California to Odie and Mildred Smith. As a young boy, his family moved back to Elk City, Oklahoma. Ronald grew up and graduated from school in Elk City. After high school, he joined the U.S Army where he was stationed in Fort Hood and shortly after entered the Vietnam War. During the war, Ronald was assigned to 3rd Brigade First Calvary and the 21st Artillery Division. After serving his country, he moved to Pampa and took a job with the Rodgers Dental Lab.
While in Pampa, Ronald met the love of his life, Chrys Brister and they later married on May 16, 1969. They shared almost 54 years of marriage before his passing. In his spare time, he enjoyed collecting and shooting guns. He also found enjoyment outdoors going camping. Ronald was proud of his country, his family, and especially his son, Richard. Ronald was a quiet man who was generous, and kind and he will be greatly missed by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Marvin Johnson; two sisters, Joan Nichols, and Janet Smith; and by his daughter-in-law, Shawnn Smith.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Chrys Smith of Pampa; a son, Richard Smith of Porter; a brother, James Johnson and wife Pam of Lexington, Oklahoma; and other extended family.
