Ruby Dell Pitts

Ruby Dell Pitts, 95, formerly of Amarillo and Wellington, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 in Surprise, Arizona.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Fairview Cemetery in Memphis, Texas with Pastor Jamisen Hancock, pastor of Briarwood Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Ruby Dell was born October 16, 1927 in Wellington to James Lucian and Ellen Beatrice Souder. She graduated from Quail High School and soon after graduating she married the love of her life, Elvis Pitts. They married on October 14, 1946 in Memphis. They celebrated 68 years of marriage before he passed away on March 9, 2015. Ruby Dell and Elvis made their home in Wellington where they raised their two daughters. She was a supportive, doting pastor’s wife and a farmer’s wife. Ruby Dell was a skilled seamstress and quilter. She had a kind, sweet spirit and always had a smile. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, James Elton Pitts; daughter, Janace Elaine Ross; siblings, Mary Ellen Mitchell, J.L. Souder, Jr., Margaret Reeves, Frances Sasser, Betty Lancaster, Annie Mae Spear, and Joyce Souder; a great granddaughter, Tawni Kay Estes.

Survivors include her daughter, Donita Roch and husband Jim; son-in-law, Ron Ross; 2 sisters, Tommie Neeley and husband Zeke and Connie James and husband Teddy; a brother, Perry Souder and wife Carol; five grandchildren, Stacy Easley, Kellye Ford and husband Corey, Suzanne Pingel and husband Brad, Michael Barton and wife Christina, and Amber Jeffords and husband Robert; 12 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren.  Included in the above lengthy list are numerous nieces, nephews and friends that she loved dearly.
