Shirley Louise Philpott, of Delaware passed away peacefully early Friday morning, May 9, 2025, at Grady Memorial Hospital with her loving husband by her side.
Services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Josh Reeves, pastor of the Miami Methodist Church of Miami, officiating. Burial will follow at the Roberts County Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory. Shirley's service will be livestreamed through the funeral home's website.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 1:00 PM, Saturday before Shirley's service.
Shirley was born September 5, 1938, on her grand-parents farm in Duel County, Nebraska to the Everett F. and Pearl A. (Krumm) Einspahr.
She grew up in Julesburg, Colorado and attended college in Sterling and Greeley, Colorado where she met and married her first husband, Robert R. Graham. They moved to Phoenix, Arizona where they had 3 children and she completed her education at Arizona State University in Tempe with a BA in Business Education and Home Economics. She began teaching in Logan, New Mexico and then in Miami, Texas where she lost Robert to cancer. It was while she was teaching in Miami and working at the Robert’s County Abstract Office that she met and married Marvin E. Philpott, her husband of 42 years, in 1983.
She moved with Marvin to Columbus, Ohio and continued teaching at the Delaware JVS which is now the Delaware Area Career Center. She retired in 2003 after teaching 40 years.
Since then, she has spent many hours volunteering at Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware as an Office Mate to the Volunteer Services Office. She has spent countless hours delivering meals and doing countless other tasks at the Council for Older Adults now known as Source Point. It was doing these countless volunteer duties that she and Marvin were inducted into the Central Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame for volunteer services in 2014. She and Marvin have been active members first of Grace United Methodist Church and then of Asbury United Methodist Church in Delaware.
Her hobbies included sewing, square dancing, motorcycle riding, camping, water skiing, fishing, and sponsoring countless after school activities with her children.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, brother Harold F. Einspahr, son Robert M. Graham, her daughter Susan I. (Graham) Roberts, and her beloved chihuahua’s Frisco, Mitzee and Ginger.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin; daughter, Cynthia L. (Graham) Dale (George) of Lexington, Kentucky; stepson, John M. Philpott (Kim) of San Angelo, Texas; stepdaughter, Shanna G. (Philpott) Heilveil (Ben) of Reisterstown, Maryland. Shirley also has 21 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
